Plan to attend the University of Minnesota's Soybean Diseases (SDS) and Corn Rootworm Management Field Day on September 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Rosemount Research and Outreach Center. Registration will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The crop diseases session led by Dr. Dean Malvick, U of MN Extension specialist for corn and soybean diseases, will include demonstrations and discussions about the soybean diseases sudden death syndrome (SDS) and frogeye leaf spot, and on the corn disease tar spot.

We will visit a SDS field study in Rosemount that includes different seed treatments and different levels of varietal resistance to determine how they influence development of SDS. The field plots are irrigated and inoculated, and as of mid-August the SDS symptoms were developing nicely and there should be high levels of disease in early September.
We will also see infected leaf samples and discuss frogeye leaf spot and corn tar spot. This will be a good opportunity to see and learn more about management and diagnosis of these diseases.
The corn rootworm session led by Dr. Ken Ostlie, Extension entomologist, will include an update about the performance of corn rootworm management options under drought conditions.

The session will focus on demonstration plots of soil insecticides, and transgenic traits, including current available pyramids of Bt traits and roots of the newest available traits package, SmartStax Pro, that expresses RNAi. Discussion will center on attendee questions but is expected to address current status of corn rootworm populations, Bt resistance, scouting and drought impacts.

There is no cost to attend the Field Day and lunch is included. However, registration is required by 5:00 p.m. on Sept 7th to reserve your space for the field day and obtain an accurate count for a light lunch immediately follow the tours.Register online
