If your Private Pesticide Applicator certification expires on March 1, 2026, you must recertify by February 28, 2026 to keep it current. This certification is required for individuals who apply Restricted Use Pesticides in the production of agricultural commodities.

Recertification options
- Attend an in-person recertification workshop
- Workshops review regulations, safety, and current University research. There are still several workshop opportunities throughout the state. Find dates and locations at www.pat.umn.edu.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and your certification number. You must attend the full workshop to receive credit.
- Online and phone registration are available in advance; Walk-ins registration is also welcome at all in-person workshops and must paid for by check to the University of Minnesota. Be sure to check the website before heading out to a workshop for weather or cancellation updates.
- Attend a Zoom workshop
- February 27, 9:00–12:30 (crop grower focused).
- Advance registration is required and space is limited. Details at www.pat.umn.edu.
- Take the online self-paced course
- New option this year! Complete modules at your own pace (computer or tablet required) and all course contents must be completed by February 28, 2026.
- Take the online proctored exam
- Available through www.pat.umn.edu. Requires a computer with webcam, microphone, and speakers. The Private Pesticide Applicator study manual (19th edition), which helps with the test, is available online.
- Take the mail-in exam
- Exam packets and study manuals are available at most county Extension offices.
New or expired certification?
